Prepping Patches

We got an event to do tomorrow with the 501st, thought it was time to take Patches out for a spin as he has stayed at home for the last few events. I took him apart tonight and charged everything back up, fixed his loose back door, and put part of his new shoes on.  Poor ED is wondering when he will get a turn. Soon ED....soon. :)

Full scale to minis scale

Had another small build night the other night but some how we all went from building full scale  Star Wars props to playing the minis game. Go figure, and it is not even game night! lol
We played a few rounds, bounty hunter VS bounty hunter.
Once we got gaming out of our systems it was back to work on projects. My new R2 dome is coming along nicely and will be ready for paint soon.

Patches' new shoes

The other day I finally got around to making Patches some new shoes. I spent about an hour with some styrene scraps and a razor blade cutting all these pieces out by hand. Tonight I will cut out the last few pieces and start putting them together.

Game nights

Some of you might not know, but I am a gamer as well as a robot builder. Long before I started this site I used to make custom SWM maps, custom figures for the games, and terrain that was to scale with the minis.
I have never been an action figure collector kind of guy. I like mini pieces and full scale replicas, not to interested in everything in between.

Here are a few of my gamer friends and me having a night of Star Wars and D&D minis play.
The SWM wars were epic. Many fallen warriors on all sides.
During half time we gamers do what we do best, EAT!!!
NOM NOM NOM!!!
Here during the D&D game, the Giant Blue Dragon ate all who stood in his way. Not a soul survived.
Getting my squads together for next week. One day I will get it all organized!

FCBD

Saturday was FCBD and R2-Central was invited back again this year to ACME Comics so Brad, Jen, and I brought our droids. Other R2-Central members took their droids to other comic shops that were having FCBD and had a good time as well. :)

Here is R3-TL and R2-D2 waiting in the shade for the day's event to start.

R3 is a fan of the DARK SIDE!

The droids took tons of photos all day long!

Ready to race! On your mark get set.......

Roller derby girls and Star Wars. Nice combo!
Another great year! We look forward to the next FCBD!

Reading is fun!!

Packed up R3 to help Trish and Shooter with Trish's Dad's reading class as he could not go today. We brought our Star Wars gear to the school to surprise the kids for passing their reading class this year.
Boo the wonder reading dog did not know what to think of the moving, talking fire hydrant. LOL
The kids were surprised to see us. Trish was in her Tie, Shooter was in his Stormtrooper, Boo was himself, and I hid in the back of the class and drove R3.
Fun group photo!
As an added bonus Trish and Shooter gave out Lego Star Wars toys to the kids as well as some Star Wars books for the school.  Very cool of them to donate all of that!
Once we were done we popped into another class that wanted to take a picture with us.
It was a fun afternoon! It is great to do good for the community! Thanks T&J for inviting R3 and me!

Dude costume 100% done!

Finally found the last part for my costume. The drill battery.  This one has seen better days.
I opened her up and took the actual battery out to make it lighter.
I then glued the casing back together then glued the battery case permanently to the drill.
By the time I get to wear this again my real hair might be long enough to not need a wig!

No pictures this time but got some stuff done.

No pics this post but got a few updates.
Got K-9's neck all done the other day only to find out the motor set up I am using makes the head move at different speeds depending which direction it is moving. I want a more fluid movement. so I am going to change part of the set up to fix that.

R4's new dome base plate is now mounted to the lazy susan.  I also got thedrive motors installed again but not the wheels as I need to make some spacers for them.

The Tron room now has the start of it's sides and will get painted hopefully next week. Also got the jigs made so I can make the other back wall.

Patches (R2-CM) is slowly getting his 5000 mile tune up for this summer. Lots of little things to do on him over the next few weeks.

"Goodbye Mistress."

Elisabeth Sladen
On April 19th of this year, one of my favorite actresses of all time that I have watched sense I was a kid passed away at the age of 63 from cancer. Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith). She started on Doctor Who in 1973, (a year before I was born) costarring with the 3rd Doctor , Jon Pertwee. She left in 1976 after traveling around with the 4th Doctor, Tom Baker.  She has had numerous return visits to the show over the years and even has her own spin off show that was currently in it's 5th year of production. She always portrayed herself in public just like her character; smart, funny, brave, and caring.  Most of the public including me had no idea she was even sick. Her loss is sudden and tragic for everyone.
I was hoping to meet her in person some day and get her autograph on the K-9 I am building, but alas that day will never come. I am more determined than ever to get my K-9 done this year and put a tribute to Elisabeth Sladen on K-9's view screen.
She will be missed by family and fans alike. As the 10th Doctor said to her, "Goodbye...my Sarah Jane Smith."
